What is St. Andrew's Village?

St. Andrew's Village was founded by parents of adults with developmental disabilities. Like all parents, they wanted to make sure that their children would live in a healthy community and enjoy valuable lifestyle enrichment activities with dignity and purpose. St. Andrew's Village is designed as an inclusive mixed-use community that provides both residential and day-habilitation services for adults with special needs. St. Andrew's is a community open to all to come and share with others.

Where is St. Andrew's Village located?

With 100 acres of land, St. Andrew's Village is located slightly to the east of Abita Springs, Louisiana. The address is 22781 Highway 36, Abita Springs, LA 70420.

Why Abita Springs?

Abita Springs is located above I-12. For vulnerable persons with disabilities, this means that they will not need to evacuate because of hurricane threat. The town of Abita Springs, LA also offers a number of opportunities and amenities that are consistent and supportive of quality of life for Villagers.

Who will live at St. Andrew's Village?

Adults with disabilities will be among the first residents/Villagers at St. Andrew's Village. They will also participate in day-habilitation activities. Eventually St. Andrew's Village will be home to many families, some of whom may choose to work or volunteer at St. Andrew's Village. Later phases will include single family homes for families wishing to live at St. Andrew's Village.

Will St. Andrew's Village provide day-habilitation services for non-residents?

St. Andrew's Village's day-habilitation services will be open to non-Villager adults with disabilities and will include art and music habilitation, job training and job activities, horticulture activities, on-site therapeutic activities and more.

What makes St. Andrew's Village different?

St. Andrew's Village is not designed as an institution or to segregate persons with disabilities from the general public. It is a community, just like a neighborhood. It embraces its local Abita Springs community. St. Andrew's Village will provide a home and purposeful work for adults with disabilities as well as others. Villagers may work on or off campus. St. Andrew's Village will invite the community in general to be part of its daily life and ongoing activities.

When will St. Andrew's Village be open?

St. Andrew's Village hopes to break ground in late 2009.

What has to happen before St. Andrew's Village opens?

St. Andrew's Village must raise approximately $10 million in capital funding to begin work on its first phase. After opening, St. Andrew's Village will be self-sustaining.
