As of 2000, there were more than 261,000 people with developmental disabilities in Louisiana and more than 219,000 in Mississippi. Currently no faith-based, private, inclusive community exists in Southeast Louisiana. Similar communities around the country have long waiting lists.
Parents of adults with disabilities face the challenge of finding qualified caregivers to provide safe, supportive, and stimulating care environments for their loved ones as well as meaningful employment with dignity and purpose.
